aha! I thought it might have been bear but then the badger idea came up. I have not seen any in this area either. I do know that some folks in Underwood believe they have seen fishers on their property in the past year.

Hi Jim, I suspect that gray cat might belong to the Georges. Speaking of digging holes: about 10-12 days ago, I was walking up my drive way and saw newly hole that was deep and about 1 ft across. As I got closer, I realized it was an underground wasp nest that had been raided! It ripped out the comb walls and left them on the top edges. We think…[Read more]

    • I”m more inclined to think it was a bear if it was an underground wasp nest — they love to eat the larvae and seem impervious to stings and bites. If a smaller hole, it might have been a skunk (they do the same thing). I’ve never seen signs of a badger in the area (Staats Road). There’s Badger Peak (and lake) up out of Cougar but I’ve never…[Read more]

Does anyone have a clue about the non-stop dog barking on Sleepy Hollow Rd and Acme Rd?

My partner was coming home from work today and saw a young cougar cub (25-30 lbs) crossing Sleepy Hollow Rd, heading NE near the Dennis gravel pit. Didn’t see the mom, but she was likely close by.

    • There are two of them! And I saw them twice today, didn’t see a mom either. One of them looked like it was moving pretty slowly. Both times they were in the road around the same area and went off into the bushes when I came close

Hi Dawn: if you are looking for locally raised meat, check out Treebird Organics in Troutlake. They do a drop off at the old Solstice place in Bingen every other Friday. They sell pastured beef, pork, lamb and chicken. I have been buying from them for the last year and am quite happy with their meats.

Thanks very much for investing your time in research, reading and writing such detailed information. This has helped me make a decision.

Thank you for your efforts researching and putting together this information. I was supportive of a new pool which I thought was the purpose of the new district. I voted against the Mt Adams Park District because it was not specific enough and did not have a purpose or plan. It sounds like this new effort is similarly unfocused and that is…[Read more]

    • Hi Sue – I submitted the same information to the editor at The Enterprise right after I posted it here. His response, while timely, was disappointing. He believes it is too early to talk about the cost of a new pool yet he does believe that a vote for the Park District is a vote for the new pool. I asked him why anyone should be expected to…[Read more]

  • Article on high-speed internet or lack of in rural areas. https://newfoodeconomy.org/rural-iowa-broadband-data-fcc/

    • Thanks for the link neighbor. The FCC info is certainly bogus. I practiced before the FCC for many decades as an Electronics Field Engineer and, at the same time, a Radio Broadcast Engineer. So very often it came to light that their data was erroneous. If one of the internet providers would establish wireless on the existing site known as…[Read more]

9:15 am – Dark Brown llama is running down Sleepy Hollow Road. Does anyone know who it belongs to?

    • Probably the same big, brown llama I saw more than a week ago at the terminus of the Lyle-Snowden Rd. Maybe it belongs to Curtis Kinoo? I left him a phone message in case it’s his.

      • Just talked to Curtis. He has a llama of similar description but she hasn’t gone missing.

    • FYI: We just had a llama siting at our place: 171 Acme Rd at about 1:30 pm Friday 6/15.

  • Also – our wonderful neighbors have decided to sell. If you know anyone interested in moving to Snowden, share this with them:https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/150-Sleepy-Hollow-Rd_White-Salmon_WA_98672_M16213-00151

Hey All: I have goldenrod that needs to be moved and transplanted. Wonderful as a late season nectar for bees _ blooms in August/September. Delicious tea and useful for allergies. Excellent for erosion control – spreads through strong rhizomes. 3-4 feet tall, lanky – perfect for a corner that needs some bright yellow flowers in the early fall.…[Read more]
