I sent you an email and I received an email from you as part of a group email but there were no maps and it was not clear to me what the msg was about it. I am not sure what to tell you – I have not had a problem with my email address before and I have over 30 new emails in my box this morning.

    Hi Lois,
My email is kuschs@gmail.com. Another neighbor contacted Gov Inslee and another state agency – both said the same, that it’s legal and therefore nothing can be legally done to stop them.

    • I’ve tried 2x now, even copied & pasted & it still comes back to me!

Hi Bob – I agree with you – I am opposed to aerial spraying but am not sure where it is going to occur. I finally did get an email response (after leaving a more demanding voicemail) from Chris and unbelievably he simply cut and pasted responses from their website. The strategy is apparently to fake interest in residents’ concerns and then just…[Read more]

    • Sue:
I called KATU news yesterday & now they are not interested because “Weyerhauser isn’t doing anything illegal”. Would you be interested in contacting any other press?

I have emailed Chris twice and have not rec’d any responses. Is there a place where I can get more specific information about the dates and location of the spraying?
thanks much for keeping us in the loop,

  • I am looking for a garden intern to work one weekday morning throughout the growing season. No payment but a portion of the weekly harvest will be shared as well as instruction/education on growing vegetables and medicinal herbs organically. If you know anyone who might be interested have them email me kuschs@gmail.com. The snow has melted and I…[Read more]

Another update on James Phillips who was involved in several crimes here last month. Today, he pled guilty and was sentenced to 9.5 months. The concern expressed by Jim and Carol (they own the house he attempted to kick in) is that he will be out in a few months with nowhere to go and probably return to this area as he has some kind of emotional…[Read more]

Hi Kathy: I can’t make the meeting on Thursday but I did send an email to him after your last email asking for specifics on what is being sprayed and where it is being sprayed and he never responded. I am wondering why he has not responded.

Thanks for your follow through on this issue.

    • Is Weyerhaeuser prepared to share maps of all their holdings? At a minimum they need to be able to demonstrate adjacencies. Please let us know how this is progressing, we don’t abut any of their holdings, but are very opposed to ariel spraying for a multitude of reasons.

      Best,
      Jenn and Eric

  • Update on Burglary suspect: James Phillips attempted to kick-in my neighbor’s door on Sleepy Hollow very early this morning. The owners told him to leave or they would shoot. He ran down the driveway.
The Deputy was called and an arrest was made and he will be charged with 2 misdemeanors and 1 felony.
I am assuming this is the same person who…[Read more]

    Hi Jenn,
I get my straw bales at Dickey’s down in Bingen. They are compressed so I can fit 4 into my Suburu. $9 each

  • Good Morning Snowden Neighbors: Despite already experiencing election fatigue given the historical conditions of our presidential campaigns, I am focused on replacing our congressional rep for this district with a progressive thinker and doer. Jim Moeller is the Democrat who won the primary and will be running against our current do-nothing,…[Read more]

    Hi Scott,
If he is looking for just a simple wire fence, he could check with local farmers – they will know who to refer. Have him post a message on Gorge Grown Food Network’s message board.

Before I switch over to Exede and sign a contract, I want to make sure I understand your information: when you say cut-off is Acme Road – do you mean they will not go up Snowden PAST Acme Road? And are they still talking about $1000s per household to bring up to the house?

    Thanks for the update!

    • Hello Sue,

I passed on the information exactly as I received it so take this for what it is, but my interpretation is that you are correct. CenturyLinks new expanded DSL program will not be offered beyond where Acme road hits Snowden. CenturyLink is a “final mile” provider so there should not be large fees for connections to homes in the…[Read more]

I am familiar with it and love the concept. White Salmon apparently is filled with avid readers. Our little branch of the FT Vancouver Regional system, located next to Thriftway, has more use per capita than any of the other branches. In fact, the last library levy failed systemwide but was approved by WS residents but we still saw the library…[Read more]

I took the same course! Though I was familiar with most of what was presented, it was thrilling to see the many links and to see how PC is spreading around the world. I think a Snowden Garden Club is an interesting idea. I am headed to NE OR for a one week vacation but when I get back I will send out some inquiries to see if there is any…[Read more]

    Welcome Jennifer,
I have 5 acres with a large fenced veggie garden in the front pasture and unfenced herbal gardens around my house. I moved from suburban/urban gardening on the west side and have learned some harsh lessons in the garden here. I am currently digging out my nine raised beds and laying hardware cloth to keep the gophers out. They…[Read more]

    • Garden Tour or Support Group, I’m game for either or both! Just started down the permaculture road this spring with an online course that OSU offered- kind of gross overview, but love the framework. We’re up to our eyeballs in the “observe” phase, but loving it. we make new discoveries every time we are up there.

  • Hey Snowdenites – Heads up: In the last 7 days, on my morning walk with the dogs, I have watched a large bear walk across the Snowden Cut-off road twice – going in a different direction each time. He looks large but I really don’t have anything to compare him to. I was reminded about leaving full trash cans out on the road overnight – a couple…[Read more]

    • Yes, we at three miles up Snowden Rd. are aware of two separate encounters with a similar (same?) black bear earlier this month (July). Likewise, getting into garbage —.

  • Is anyone missing a dog? I have seen a smallish, white long-haired dog – similar to a cocker spaniel – on Sleepy Hollow Road just past the Dennis place. I tried to get him to come home but he/she ran from me and hid in the woods. I can’t get close enough to see if there is a collar or tag and checked with Dennis’ and others on Sleepy Hollow.…[Read more]

  • Several weeks ago, I called the county to ask when Sleepy Hollow would be graded. He took my name, address and said he would put in a request for service. Three days later the county showed up to do a quick fix which was sorely needed since our road was filled with potholes. Apparently it was too wet to do an actual grading so the holes are…[Read more]

    • Apparently calling often is not enough either. Staats Road which is used by many people out Snowden to go to the BZ Corners Transfer Station has been sorely in need of not just regrading, but new base, gravel, and rolling ever since the timber companies destroyed it last year has had virtually no attention — it’s a mess. It’s been a mess and no…[Read more]

  • Re: switching to Hughes
I have had a few issues with my CenturyLink phone service over the years but not enough to call in a complaint. But I used Hughes for web service for the first few years and can say that they have some of the most appalling customer service I have encountered! I think Consumer Reports or somebody rated them as the worst in…[Read more]

    • Hughes is awful — and no better since being acquired by Comcast, either. Wonder when Century Link is going to digitize more phone lines out Snowden so we can ditch Hughes for good. Or, when the Fiber Optic cable which was installed two years ago is actually going to be put to use…
