• In regards to being the squeaky wheel that gets broadband, I just got the following info from a very reliable source:

The contact person is Karen in residential services at Gorge.net.
    Direct line is 541-436-0223.

It would be great if she had hundreds of people calling her.

So I”m told by both Saw.net and Gorge.net that the service isn’t available yet here in Snowden. But that can change if we become a squeaky enough wheel. Please tell everyone you know in Snowden to call and inquire with both Saw.net and Gorge.net. 888-427-4865 and 541-386-8300 respectively. They will hook us up if they smell money. If we’re…[Read more]

In reply to: Dawn Stover posted an update in the group Snowden Community Group Anyone else experience an unexplained CenturyLink local service outage for several hours today? View

If you have Hughes.net, you can get phone service through them. It’s another $25/month and the bandwidth you use doesn’t count against your normal monthly quota. The quality is fairly good. But best of all, you get to call CenturyLink and tell them to cancel your account. Oh, and yes, you do get to keep your phone number.

  • Two friends of mine are driving up to my place (1099 Snowden) early tomorrow a.m. If anyone’s out there driving before or around 8 a.m., can you warn me if it’s icy. My friends don’t have snow tires. If it’s bad, I’ll postpone. 493-2296 or scott@hammock.net. Thanks!

  • Emergency Frequencies
Here’s a list of  local emergency frequencies from Radio Shack in Hood River.

Here’s a listing of emergency radio frequencies from RadioReference.com

    And from Les Penney:
Here are some frequencies to load into your scanner.

159.375    DNR repeater on Mount Defiance
    154.130    Klickitat County repeater
    153.770   Klickitat  County repeater

These three repeaters should keep you informed but not overloaded.
    Maps
Radio communications refer to longitude and latitude.  This can be plugged into Google Maps.  Here are instructions on how to enter longitude and latitude.  And here’s an example.
    Buying a Scanner
The following information comes from Robert Allen Klickitat County Department of Emergency Management Operations Manager. (2013)
Mr. See, if you are planning to purchase a police scanner for monitoring radio traffic, you need to ensure that the scanner is VHF narrowband (12.5 KHz) capable. Narrowband frequencies will have four digits to the right side of the decimal, wideband frequencies only have 3, 154.1300 is a narrowband frequency and 154.130 is a wideband frequency. The you will be able to receive current wideband (25 KHz) radio frequencies until they are no longer in use. You will also have the capability to pick up the FCC mandated narrowband frequencies that we will be using by year-end, this year.

As it turns out, Chuck Virts did send me an update that night, but due to some glitch, the message never got to me. Had I gotten the update from him, I would have put it on kcfd3.com and the FD3 Facebook page. He tried. We’ll get this sorted out.

I was wondering why Meggie was asking about a fire. I looked it up on inciweb and there’s nothing listed. Heck, I’m a web volunteer for http://www.kcfd3.com/ and nobody’s told me nothing.
