This (June 8 ) morning, encountered a medium-sized black bear (looked a bit bigger than the one in Reid’s video) standing about 200 feet away on the SDS road south of Bates/west of Tunnel. We stared each other down for at least a minute before it finally slowly turned to amble off into the woods eastward towards Tunnel. After walking the w…[Read more]

    Hi, Duncan:
This past summer/fall, we had a 20’ X 60’ metal shed erected. The shed was made by Pioneer Steel from near Toronto. (You’ve perhaps seen the monthly ads for Pioneer along with two other companies in the “Ruralite”.) A steel shed is perhaps not what you are after. But here are our details. We initially did have difficult…[Read more]

    Hi, Reid:
Sounds sadly so familiar. A couple months ago, both dogs chased my pickup downhill virtually the entire length between the two 20 mph curve signs. Although I was only going about 30 mph, they were actually able to keep up! While potentially hitting one of them is an understandable concern, I think a greater one is the potential…[Read more]

    • It probably doesn’t help that there’s a downed tree that juts out from the uphill side of the road on that stretch. There’s not much shoulder as it is.

Is it possible to also post the agenda for upcoming meetings (e.g., for May 4)? Would be very helpful and potentially entice more residents to come to the meetings. The last agenda I see here (at 4 P. M., May 3) is for Sept. 2016. R

    Hi, Lois:
As retired folk, we don’t get out onto Snowden Road most days. But yes, I saw the two dogs at least once on the road this past month. Interesting that there is a recent severe skid mark in front of the place; wonder if that was caused by someone braking for them? FWIW, while it has always been the same small black-and-white dog t…[Read more]

    • I almost hit the little dog yesterday on Snowden – coming straight up the middle of the downhill lane probably 100′ downhill of their driveway. I was driving a truck downhill and while I wasn’t doing 50mph it was challenging to get stopped as the uphill lane was occupied. I thought that little dog was “car smart”, but he made no effort to get…[Read more]

A welcome fix — thanks! This will certainly encourage members to comment directly under posted threads rather than opening a new thread to do so. (You’ve encouraged members to do this at least twice these past couple of years.) Do note that in the current format (April 30) which Scott is still working on, the “Comment” button has been replace…[Read more]

  • P. S. (the “Comment” button) While I am not particularly computer-literate, would(n’t) it be a quite simple matter to change a protocol in the program to allow comments to be displayed (i.e., along with the posts) withOUT first needing to log in*? Would think so —? And IF so, then Scott’s suggestion to use the “Comment” button would becom…[Read more]

    • I just switched the Theme. Let’s see if that fixes the glitch.

    • Good news, the new theme does fix the glitch. Strange… the previous theme was actually from BuddyPress, the plugin that powers this post/comment thing in the first place. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

    • I think I’ve worked out most of the bugs on this new theme, but please do let me know if you’re having trouble finding anything on this site. It’s a bit bland. Anyone have some gorgeous Snowden photos? Lois??

  • Hi, Scott et. al. RE: Your suggestion to use the “Comment” button. This is fine IF you only want the person(s) who made a post to see it. Otherwise, comments never show up unless you physically sign in first. (And how many of us actually do that unless we ourselves specifically intend to post/comment?) After all, some comments MAY/DO hav…[Read more]

    • I stand corrected. My browser automatically logs me in, so I’ve never seen the site while not logged in. I’ve researched this and it seems it’s a bug in the Plugin I use, BuddyPress. I’ll try to fix that.

  • Hi, Dawn: Here’s the reply I wrote about nine months ago to another person inquiring about the nuisance dogs three miles up Snowden Road: “The dogs you mentioned belong to the people at 295 Snowden. • I mentioned this to my wife, and she knew the dogs I was talking about. She hates it when dogs run out in the road.

    • About 4 weeks ago, I spoke to the Mom’s daughter, the Mom being the dogs owner. Have you seen them in the road recently?

See the latest “Brothers Garcia” ad of Sept. 19 under Services at gorge.net/classifieds.

  • We’ve likewise used Miguel Garcia and crew (509-261-0646) for tree trimming/felling, brush clearing (in conjunction with the DNR’s forest-health program), and spraying. Hard working, reliable and honest. Richard and Marisa

  • Presumably you are also receiving about now (late Sept.) your annual “Official Revaluation Notice” from the County Assessor. It was my understanding that we in “County Area 1” (see map at the Assessor’s website: http://www.klickitatcounty.org/166/Appraisal-Inspections) were subject to the every-six-year drive-by (or more) inspection in 2016. Hi, Jenn: Michael Low in Glenwood has periodically advertised his services for barn restoration at gorge.net. Click “Classifieds”, then scroll down to “Services” Click “Search”, then widen the date range to at least earlier this year. His last ad (with pictures) was posted at 9:55 P. M. on July 9. Good luck. Richard

    • Richard,

That’s hugely helpful thanks! I’ll see if I can track Michael down right now.

      Much Appreciated!

Hi, Molly: Marisa asked Tom a couple of questions (indicated after “>”) followed by Tom’s replies
    > sure you didn’t hire a trained animal?
    Only the chickens are trained.

  • Hi, Barbara:
The dogs you mentioned belong to the people at 295 Snowden. Their wandering (including being in the middle of the S. Road) has been going on for about two years now. They’ve also been a nuisance when they occasionally wander onto our property about a half mile away. Sad that the owners apparently don’t care and show little res…[Read more]
