  • I noticed that someone has posted a sign down Snowden that says “Llama Found”. The “llama” is in a fenced area visible from the road. I believe it is an alpaca, mostly black, if you hear of anyone looking for one.

    • Hi Katie – I just noticed the same thing. On Monday afternoon we were driving home and saw a llama walking down Snowden. The guy behind us pulled over and we decided to go door to door and see if we could figure out who’s it was. The first house (402 Snowden) turned out to be the home “Heidi” the llama came from. The lady who lived there, her…[Read more]

I don’t know if he still does them, but Ken Ingebo did ours. It went up quickly and we’ve been very happy with it. 509-369-3333 or 541-993-9999 are the numbers I have.

Very cool photos. Thanks for sharing. I’ve seen a bear like that cross the road once last year and once this spring – near the fire station, and I saw it once last year while hiking across the street from my house (27 Bates).

We’re at the bottom of Bates – DSL. We only get 3mbs down and usually about 0.25 mbs up, but we stream movies, sometimes on two devices at a time without problems. The speed dips below 1.5 mbs and we get buffering issues. Uploading is sometimes painful, but still faster than the real speeds I used to get with satellite and there is no metering.…[Read more]

  • SNOWDEN BROADBAND – In February a fellow named Cameron contacted me to survey interest in broadband service. He was from Wave Broadband. They bought out SawNet and thus access to the fiber optic in the area. They are trying to get a handle on potential customer needs. They want to start with business customers and any small business will qualify,…[Read more]

  • Just to add my thought and experience to this thread…
I also contacted both SawNet and Gorgenet and got nowhere.
However, after many visits with our local Centurylink repair techs who are tasked with the impossible feat of trying to get my Internet connection up to advertised speed, I have learned over the past few years that we might have the…[Read more]

  • Need about 1200 SF field disked or tilled. Do you know of anyone we could hire?

    • When I used to live up on Snowden, the FFA from the High School did things like that with their tractor.

    • We had the school up here once and it was a disaster. The teacher didn’t even know how to get the tractor into low gear. I’d be asking questions as to how trained or experienced they are.

I think gathering things in the Snowden category on this site is a natural. Good call, Scott!

My time is limited, but if you’re not in a rush, I’m a graphic artist and would be glad to help if you think my help would be useful. I could produce files for a ‘magazine’ for print and/or flipping book (for online) and/or pdf for downloading. Editing…[Read more]

Sorry to be so long in response everyone. I’ve just moved my office, and haven’t yet put everything away, but Sawnet apparently didn’t need the permission they were seeking in the letter: They strung fiber optic cable across the property via the power lines about a week ago.

It came via certified mail. They told me that they had already received a state contract to bring high-speed Internet to Klickitat County. I’ll find the info and upload in the next few days.

    • Excellent. I’d really like to study what you’ve rec’d before the next Broadband Planning meeting on the 29th. This exchange of yours [with Sawnet] is not in keeping with what we’ve all been told was to take place. This thing about power pole suspension has to do with PUD’s concern with “Snow & Ice load” after what was observed last winter. I…[Read more]

You’re just next door! (We’re at 27 Bates, next driveway up, house on the hillside) I just composted a big pile of egg cartons but will let you know next time I have a collection in my cupboard.

Done! I do have Broadband, but it limps along at about 2 Mbps (down) when I was promised 10. As a graphic artist, I upload a lot of files and the less than 1 Mbps up is tedious, but a lot less tedious than satellite or dial-up. We got a ‘permission’ form from Sawnet a few months back. They say that they want to hang high-speed cables off the…[Read more]

    • We certainly haven’t seen this form, did you request it from sawnet,or did they just send it to you out of the blue? We spoke with a couple of the workers a few weeks back, and they said they weren’t able to work it out with the P.U.D., because they wanted Sawnet to replace some of the poles.

    • Welcome Katie! Have you done your “Broadband Survey” for the MCEDD yet? It is crucial for the completion of the H/S Internet/Fibre-Optic Cable service to our residences. If you haven’t please do these 2 steps ASAP.
      (1) Go to-> http://wabroadbandmapping.org/Speedtest.aspx

      Thank-you,
