    Marisa and Barbara,

Thanks for the recommendation. Jesse Caulkins had given us Miguels information as well, but we had trouble pinning him down. We have cost share funds as well. Given your recommendations we’ll double down on our efforts to get his attention!

    Best!
    Jenn

    • I did try to reach him awhile back and got no return call, not sure what’s going on there. If you do get him, I’m sure he’ll be very reliable. Good luck!

  • We need to hire a crew to help us with some forest maintenance/fire hazard reduction. Anyone have recommendations?
    Thanks!
    Jenn

    • Hi, Jenn:
In the fall 2015 we had Miguel Garcia and crew work here quite a few days on our 20-acre property. This was in conjunction with the DNR’s cost-sharing program (up to 50% reimbursement) “to promote forest health and fire suppression“. Our neighbor, Jesse Calkins (recently retired from the DNR), assisted us with the appli…[Read more]

      • Jenn, I second that. Miguel and Brothers Garcia are good to work with, hard workers, and have good experience.

    • Miguel and his crew are the hardest working most dependable people I’ve seen. I plan to bring them back to do some trail work. The number I have for him is 509-261-0646.

    • Hello! Just adding in to the ideas here: With Jesse Calkins’ retirement, Dan Lennon is the new contact for DNR cost-share in this area: Daniel Lennon at 509-773-5588 or daniel.lennon@dnr.wa.gov. He’s out of Goldendale but covering the west end of the County now.

And Underwood Conservation District has a free mobile chipping service starting…[Read more]

  • We are lined up to begin deconstruction on the house that collapsed on our property over this last winter- finally! If folks know of anyone looking for some work, we’re are about two people short of the crew we’d like to have next week. $15/hr, paid cash at end of the day. Prefer folks who know their way around a construction site, but can find…[Read more]

    • I’d be happy to pitch in. Post your desired start date & time. Our res. phone# is in the book if you need to sort things out. Have my own safety gear & basic deconstruction tools. Have you got heavy equipment lined-up?

  • There is a small black dog roaming the shoulder of Snowden just before the cemetery, seems a bit out of plane on a dark road.

  • Any local musicians looking for a gig in June? Acoustic, bluegrass, folk music preferred.

  • If anyone is making a scrap metal recycling run let us know. We’ve been making a pile and would love to contribute it to someone who wants to take the time to grab it.
    Thanks!

Is Weyerhaeuser prepared to share maps of all their holdings? At a minimum they need to be able to demonstrate adjacencies. Please let us know how this is progressing, we don’t abut any of their holdings, but are very opposed to ariel spraying for a multitude of reasons.

Please count us in as concerned neighbors. Or property does not abut any that is held by timber companies, but we certainly want to support mesures that keep aerial spraying from happening.

We have a 41″ diameter doug fir tree that needs to become someone’s furniture, less one slab for us. Before we solicit someone with a mobile sawmill, we are wondering if there is anyone interested in participating in this adventure. We are hoping to have it down before the ban burn goes into effect, there’s an adjacent strucute that is ripe for…[Read more]

    April,

    Much appreciated!

  • First, thank you to the neigbhors that were brave/kind enough to break the news to us that the house on our property had fallen down! Second, our apologies to folks who will have to look at the sad mess while we wait for the snow to melt so that we can get in there. And finally, we are looking for a carpenter or two or three. We are hoping to…[Read more]

  • We’ve noticed a few solar panel installations on Snowden, anyone who have one care to share who their designer/installer is/was?
    Thanks!

    Thanks Sue!

  • We need a couple straw, probably four bales. Anyone have some up Snowden they’d like to sell? We need to bed down a few things for the winter this weekend.
    Thanks!
    Jenn

  • We are looking for somewhere dry/covered to stash our 1961 Shasta Airflyte camper for the winter. It’s 19′ including the tongue. If anyone has some space they’d like to rent let us know, we’d like to have it tucked in before Thanksgiving.
    Thanks!

    Richard,

That’s hugely helpful thanks! I’ll see if I can track Michael down right now.

    Much Appreciated!

  • We would appreciate any leads on outfits doing barn restoration up Snowden. We’re hoping/planning to scavange material from our collapsed barn to fix the big barn. We also need to replace the steel sheer cable, which must have been “repurposed.”
    Thanks!
    Jenn

    • Hi, Jenn: Michael Low in Glenwood has periodically advertised his services for barn restoration at gorge.net. Click “Classifieds”, then scroll down to “Services” Click “Search”, then widen the date range to at least earlier this year. His last ad (with pictures) was posted at 9:55 P. M. on July 9. Good luck. There is an excellent article on brining hi speed internet to rural areas in the NY Times this morning.
